The advancement of mobile technologies has led to a significant shift towards ubiquitous learning, where education can occur anytime and anywhere. Over the past decades, mobile devices have no longer been confined to communication purposes but 
are increasingly used as essential learning tools across all levels of education. The rapid proliferation of smartphones has transformed language education through Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) applications. This study examines the pedagogical effectiveness of prominent mobile applications (such as Duolingo, Babbel, Busuu, Beelinguapp, and Langotalk) in enhancing second and foreign language acquisition. Drawing on a systematic review and synthesis of meta-analyses and empirical research published between 2015 and 2025, this paper evaluates the impact of MALL on core linguistic skills (vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, and writing). The findings consistently demonstrate moderate to large positive effects of MALL on overall language achievement (Hedges’ g ≈ 0.55 - 0.88) compared to traditional instruction methods. While vocabulary acquisition and receptive skills show the strongest integration gains due to gamification and spaced repetition systems, productive skills require advanced digital conversational tools. Finally, this paper outlines critical challenges, including limited pedagogical theory integration and cognitive fatigue, providing actionable strategic recommendations for future developers and digital educators.
