Abstract

The geopolitical confrontation between Saudi Arabia and Iran is one of the most important and complex political rivalries in the Middle East. The main factors of this confrontation are closely related to ideology (Sunniism and Shiism), the struggle for political power, the desire for regional leadership, security issues, and the interests of external powers. Iran's "revolutionary Shiism" policy and Saudi Arabia's defense of the Sunni monarchical system have exacerbated the conflict between the two countries. Proxy conflicts in countries such as Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon are also practical manifestations of this rivalry. This annotation analyzes the causes, main factors, and impact of the geopolitical confrontation between Saudi Arabia and Iran on regional stability.
