Abstract

Botulism is a severe toxic-infectious disease caused by botulinum toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. It affects the neuromuscular transmission system, leading to flaccid paralysis. The main route of infection is the consumption of contaminated or improperly preserved food. In pathogenesis, the toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine at nerve endings. Clinically, it presents with blurred vision, difficulty in swallowing and speaking, muscle weakness, and respiratory failure.
