Critical thinking is widely regarded as a fundamental component of academic success, particularly in the context of Academic English. It enables students not only to understand language structures but also to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize
information effectively. This paper explores the role of critical thinking in developing academic writing and reading skills among English language learners.
The study adopts a qualitative approach based on literature review and classroom observation. The findings indicate that students who actively engage in critical thinking demonstrate improved argumentation, better organization of ideas, and stronger analytical reading abilities. Furthermore, they become more independent learners who are capable of forming and defending their own viewpoints.
The paper highlights the importance of integrating critical thinking strategies into language instruction and provides practical recommendations for educators. Overall, the study confirms that critical thinking is essential for achieving higher levels of proficiency in Academic English and for preparing students for academic and professional challenges.
