Abstract

From a linguistic perspective, a gap refers to situations of deficiency, ambiguity, or incompleteness in terms of meaning, structure, or function within a language. These gaps can be observed at various levels of language—morphology,
semantics, syntax (grammatical structure), or pragmatics. Linguistic gaps are typically spaces that need to be filled with context, cultural knowledge, or linguistic information in order for meaning to be shared among language users.

The term "lacuna" has corresponding terms in English such as "lexical hole," "lacunae," and "lexical gaps."

In this study, phraseological emotive lacunas in Turkish and Uzbek will be examined from the perspective of language and culture.

The topic of emotive idiomatic gaps (emotional expressions and the gaps found within them) in Turkish and Uzbek reflects deeply the cultural contexts and emotional thought patterns of the people. Emotional expressions are a significant part of both language and culture, and the gaps in idioms show how each society perceives emotions and thoughts. Idioms, by reflecting the emotional expression styles of both cultures, reveal the social and cultural structure of the language and provide deep insight into the emotional world and values of the societies. Emotive idioms are special phrases used to express emotional states, and these idioms highlight the cultural differences and similarities in language.

In both languages, basic emotions such as love, affection, anger, and sadness are particularly used to describe people's inner worlds. In this study, emotive idiomatic lacunas are divided into groups such as love, happiness, hatred, anger, compassion, irritation, fear, and anxiety, and these are examined based on both negative and positive classifications, along with the cultural differences and similarities between the languages.

The research will serve as a valuable resource for Turkish and Uzbek speakers to facilitate mutual understanding and communication, as well as to eliminate unfamiliar concepts and idioms that arise between languages.
