Abstract

External auditory canal (EAC) atresia is a severe pathology that causes significant hearing loss and reduces the quality of life. Meatoplasty plays a key role in correcting this defect. According to WHO data, congenital EAC atresia occurs in 1 in 10,000–20,000 live births. The pathogenesis involves embryological developmental failures or cicatricial changes due to trauma and inflammation. One of the main challenges after EAC reconstruction remains restenosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and clinical-functional outcomes of modern meatoplasty techniques in patients with congenital and acquired EAC atresia based on literature data.
