THE RENDERING OF SPEECH ETIQUETTE UNITS IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TRANSLATIONS
Abstract
This thesis analyzes the characteristics of transferring speech etiquette units in artificial intelligence-based translation systems. Etiquette units are examined not merely as lexico-grammatical forms but as phenomena possessing pragmatic and culturalcognitive content, identifying typical errors made by AI systems in translating address forms, indirect speech acts, and culturally specific formulas. Searle’s speech act theory and Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory form the theoretical foundation of the study. The practical significance of the research is reflected in improving machine translation systems and training translation specialists.
