This article examines the historical development of special education methodology in Uzbekistan during the independence period (1991-2025). The transition from the Soviet-era “defectology” approach to modern inclusive education concepts, state policy and legislative framework, and adaptation of international experience to local conditions are analyzed. Research findings indicate significant development of the special education system in Uzbekistan, while certain challenges remain.
