Abstract

This article analyzes the educational policy carried out in Turkestan during the rule of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and its impact on socio-cultural life. In particular, it covers the changes that occurred in the education system as a result of the establishment of the Turkestan Governorate-General by Alexander II in 1867. The article examines the activities of traditional schools and madrasas, the establishment of Russian-style schools, and their goals and objectives on a scientific basis. The formation of a new educational system in Turkestan through the activities of the Jadid movement and its leading figures, Ismail Gaspirali, Mahmudkhodja Behbudiy, and Abdulla Avloniy, is also analyzed.
