ODIL YOQUBOV HIKOYALARIDA DIALEKTIZM

Abstract

This article examines the use of dialect-specific words in the short stories of Odil Yoqubov, a People's Writer of Uzbekistan. Odil Yoqubov is one of the most prominent representatives of Uzbek literature, a writer who deeply reflects the psychology, social life, and national values of the people in his works. The use of dialectisms - that is, local dialect words - in his stories occupies an important place as a means of artistic  expression. The writer primarily employs dialect words in the oral speech of his characters: they reveal the characters' social background and regional identity, depict their mentality and mode of thinking more precisely, and enrich the work with a folk spirit. Thus, Odil Yoqubov portrayed the life, inner world, and social problems of the people with a high degree of artistic mastery. A closeness to the folk language, vitality, and naturalness are strongly felt in his stories and to achieve this effect, the writer skillfully made use of dialectisms, that is, local dialect words.
